The St. Peter’s, Samsonville and Area Water Utility is asking our customers to be mindful of their water use.  While we are not under a water conservation order at this time, we ask that our customers voluntarily restrict their water usage.  During the summer months, there is always an increase in water supply demand, as people are watering lawns and gardens, washing cars more frequently, filling pools, using sprinklers etc.  Our wells are currently low due to the warmer and dryer weather.

Simple conservation tips include:

- Bucket-wash cars or boats, where possible

-Avoid pressure washing houses, driveways etc.

- Avoid refilling or topping-up swimming pools

- If you know you have leaking taps, fix them now

- Flush toilets sparingly and check to make sure your toilets are not leaking.

- Avoid using your bath and cut your shower time down as much as possible, you may also want to consider low flow shower heads

- Turn taps off when the water is not being used (while cleaning teeth, or scrubbing vegetables, for example).

-Water gardens and lawns less frequently, and when watering  do it in the evening or early morning to avoid evaporation.

-Sweep driveways rather than hose them down.

-Let the water utility know if you see anything that might look like a leak.

Annual Lead & Copper Sampling Aug/Sept 2024

The St. Peter’s, Samsonville and Area Water Utility is required annually to conduct lead and copper sampling in 10 high risk homes connected to the water system. High risk homes are considered to be homes older than 1975 and/or homes containing lead pipe, copper pipe with lead solder and/ or lead containing brass fittings.

The utility is looking for 10 volunteers to participate in lead & copper sampling in their homes between August and September, 2024. Participants can be from St. Peter’s, Samsonville or French Cove and must be connected to the St. Peter’s, Samsonville and Area Water System. There will be no cost to participants. If you are interested, please contact the office at 902-535-2155 or amanda@villageofstpeters.ca.

The Water Utility does quarterly water quality testing in the distribution system and has not had any concerns with lead. Monitoring lead at the consumer’s tap can help identify sources and select strategies to reduce lead levels at the tap.
